Uber just doubled their sign-up bonus to $30 off your first ride whenyou sign-up. Use Uber promo code PRGEY for $30 in FREE ride credit! So if you’ve never tried Uber, now is a good time, though be warned that it can become quite addictive! Also make sure you are fully aware of minimum charges and increased rates during surge pricing times, but having a $20 credit waiting in your account can be useful- especially when you’re somewhere where you can’t take a taxi and need a ride.
If you are an existing member, Uber has also provided me with a code good for 20% off one ride now through January 13, 2014. When making your reservation enter the promo code: PRGEY. It will work for new and existing members so whether you’ve used Uber before or are just signing up now, be sure to use it for another discount on top of the $20 credit.
Even though Uber has gotten a lot of flak in the press for their price gouging inflation techniques during recent snowstorms, they’re still my go-to car service when I’m traveling for a couple reasons. It is easy- I like being able to push a button and see exactly where vehicles are and choose between UberX (cheaper) and SUVs when riding with 4 or more friends.
Uber also makes it easy from an accounting perspective, because all ride receipts are automatically billed to the credit card on file and receipts emailed automatically. I am a master at losing paper receipts, so even though Uber is more expensive than traditional taxis, I save money by automatically having all of my receipts for reimbursement/tax writeoffs when traveling on business. Lastly, some cities like Paris make hailing taxis near impossible, so the sheer convenience factor of being able to get a ride in cities where you can’t get a taxi can be invaluable (and you never have to deal with a driver that wants you to pay in cash!).
