Best Lyft Promo Code And Free Ride Credits

Today you’re going to learn about my favorite Silicon Valley startup promotion that’s taking the entire country by storm:

Lyft promo codes.

You probably know other people that have been able to cash in on the massive amounts of free ride credit the company is currently offering new and existing users.

But how do they get all this credit? Do they have a secret that you don’t know about?

Yep, they do, actually!

And today I’m going to pull back the curtain and show you the different ways you, too, can cash in on these lucrative promotions.

Lyft Promo Code and Promotions

As a rideshare user myself, I can say that the promotions currently being offered are more than worth your time to claim.  The best one, however, grants up to $50 in free ride credit to new users. (Note: the credit amount changes by city and time the promotion is applied, and this amount can change at any time)

All you have to do is enter a Lyft credit code from the list below during signup to claim your credit.

The code we promote the most is “CAMPUSCODE2017“, but the codes below will also work, unlocking the same amount of ride credit. If the code above didn’t work for you, try again with one from below:

Using a Lyft gift code to claim free ride credit is a great way for new users to try the platform without having to sink too much of their own money into the ride.

Applying the Lyft promo codes

Claiming the new user promotion is pretty easy, and can be applied in a matter of minutes. Users will need to follow a few steps to claim the promotion:

1. Download the rider app

New users can download the app from Google Play, the App Store, or directly from the Lyft website.

If you download the app from the official company website, follow the prompts. They may ask you to verify your phone number to download the app.

2. Create an account and login.

Once you get the app on your phone, follow the in-app instructions to enter profile, phone, and payment information that will be used to request rides.

3. Enter a Lyft credit code

After you’ve created your account, navigate to the “Payment” section of the app to enter the new user promo code.

In the box labeled “Add Credit/Gift Code”, enter one of the codes from above. Once you apply the code, you’ll see ride credit amount, expiration date, and any other additional information related to the promotion.

Do note, however, that these ride promotions only stay active in your account for 14 days from the time you activate them, so use them while you can before they run out.

Tips for using a referral code:

While the Lyft promo code terms are very straightforward, there are a few things to consider before taking advantage of the bonus.

These are simple items that new users often overlook, so read the tips below to ensure you don’t disqualify yourself from the promotion.

  • You MUST enter the promo code before taking your first ride
  • New riders are only eligable for one new rider promotion
  • Lyft gift codes expire after 14 days
  • You can get free rides by inviting your friends!

How much is the code worth?

As many people are well aware, Lyft and Uber have been battling for control for control of the rideshare market for quite some time. Without going into too much detail, they have been both cutting prices at a record rate, and now Lyft is taking a step back.

Long story short, drivers now have the opportunity to make 25% more than the competition, and passengers are enjoying free ride credits worth between $20 and $50.

The company is testing different amounts in each city, so we can’t guarantee a certain price, because we aren’t exactly sure the amount for each city.

So what does this mean for passengers? You can expect drivers to be extra friendly, and potentially enjoy higher ride credits than before. While Lyft strives to be the most affordable option, they are offering huge incentives for new users to try the platform, as well as provide a rockstar experience that new and existing users will never forget.

We’ll update this regularly, so check back to learn more.

Best times to use a Lyft coupon

Once you have the free Lyft ride credit in your account, you have 14 days to use it before the credit expires. At that point, your credit card will be charges for the entire amount of the ride you take.

We suggest focusing not on what the best time to take your first ride is, as it is all relative at that point. Once you have the credit, take the ride to save yourself money. Since the credit rolls over to the next ride, you won’t have to worry about the excess going to waste!

If you do, however, want to save your Lyft coupon code something special, then we suggest not downloading the app, entering the credit code, and requesting your first ride until you are fully ready. When you do, you only have 14 days, so if you’re saving it, for whatever reason, just hold off until you’re ready to go.

We have a lot of people emailing us and asking if they can retroactively put the promo code on hold, which there is no way of doing. Once the coupon hits your account, you’ve got two weeks.

New Lyft promo codes

We update this page as much as possible, and are always looking for ways to save you money. In our searches for some other Lyft-related posts, we came across a few new codes that we think you will love for your next ride.

First, we came across “RIDESTERLYFT“, which gives new drivers access to the huge sign-on bonuses that Lyft is currently offering new drivers.

These Lyft driver promotions are worth up to $2,000, and are good in many different cities around the nation. A great promotion to check out if you are looking to drive!

Second, there is the promo code “NEWUZER” which is a new user coupon code that gives new riders a credit on their account good for up to $50. This appears to be a new coupon that someone randomly created. We aren’t sure, but the credit is good as of right now, so who cares anyways.

Those are the new codes we’ve found so far, and will continue to add more as we dig them up! In the meantime, enjoy those two.

  Lyft coupons for existing users

You may be asking yourself, “well what about Lyft coupons for existing users?” Well, this one is tricky. While there are no codes for existing users, there are other ways to earn free ride credit.

I have personally earned thousands upon thousands of discounted rides by using these methods, so you can be sure that they are 100% working and ready for you to use. See our full Lyft existing users writeup to learn about all the ways to earn.

It is worth noting that you should read ALL of the methods to save money, because the more you read, the more you save!

By the way, this is hands down one of highest traffic pages, and users are CONSTANTLY looking for extra ways to save. As of March 2018, we have a few new methods for existing Lyft users to get free ride credit, so make sure to check them out after you’ve used your first credit.

What cities have Lyft coverage areas?

If it takes longer than five minutes to get from one side of your city to the other, Lyft is probably available in your area.

But seriously, they are currently in 65 cities across the continental United States, and growing at a very rapid rate.

Coverage is available in the largest cities in the United States, including New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Diego, Tampa, Dallas, Seattle, and Atlanta. They are also in smaller cities like Lincoln, Raleigh-Durham, and Portland, among many others.

Lyft New York City

New York City is one of Lyft’s hottest markets because of the sheer amount of people living in such a small space.

Lyft Boston

Another one of the most popular Lyft cities is in Boston, MA. There are plenty of colleges in this area, as well as tons of working professionals that need reliable transportation to and from work. New users in Boston can use one of our new user Boston Lyft promo codes to get a free ride credit that is good towards their first ride.

Lyft San Diego

San Diego is yet another of the most popular Lyft cities for customers. The San Diego community has turned to Lyft to bypass the bus or taxis, and looks to it to provide safe, reliable, and affordable rides on demand whenever they need them. Locals and tourists alike use it to get around, and with it being so affordable and convenient, it is not hard to see why it has become so popular!

Where can I use Lyft?

Lyft can be used any time you need a ride to and from an event, place, or gathering. Never again do you have to worry about hailing a cab, or hoping that next bus arrives on time. With Lyft, you have friendly rides available on demand at all times. Simply pull out your smartphone, open the Lyft app, and get wherever you need to go.

Lyft riders often use the app for:

  • Vacations
  • Getting around town
  • Safe rides home after a drink or two, or three
  • After a car breakdown
  • To and from events where parking is sparce
  • Festivals
  • Birthday parties
  • Family gatherings
  • Getting to and from work
  • Business meetings/travel arrangements

If you are a first time user, you can redeem your Lyft credit code for any of these occasions, giving you a free ride no matter where you are looking to go!

Why does Lyft offer a referral program?

Lyft offers such a great referral program for two reasons: 1. To grow their rider base and make more money, obviously. 2. To keep drivers and riders happy, creating a cohesive equilibrium that we call the rideshare industry.

This referral program is part of Lyft’s current 2018 promotions, and gives riders tons of free ride credit, and allows drivers to make some extra money on the side of driving. Without the program, Lyft, Uber, and other rideshare companies would not have been able to grow so aggressively.

If you think about the program at it’s core, it is genius. There is a platform of over 60,000 drivers, and millions of riders. You give them each a few bucks for referring new passengers, and word spreads like wildfire. Now that’s powerful.

If you want to share your referral code and get free ride credit, simple navigate to the “Free Rides” section within the Lyft app, share the code with a friend who hasn’t yet taken Lyft, and you’ll get a free ride credit when they take their first ride.

Your friend will also get a free ride for downloading the app and using it for the first time. Our friends over at Ridester cover this a ton more in their existing Lyft user post, so check that out to learn more about the program.

Lyft codes for new users

As we touched on above part of the reason Lyft has been able to expand so fast is largely due to many riders claiming a promo code for new users. These rides allow them to get one, two, three, even four rides under their belts for free, without having to pay a dime.

When you give a new rider a free ride credit, they will likely use the app a few times, realize how dang convenient it is, then think Lyft first the next time they have to get a ride somewhere!

Let’s take a quick look at my personal experience as a driver and a couple that I drove the other day:

It was about 6 o clock and I picked up a happy couple that seemed new to Lyft. After I picked them up, got directions to their destination, and began driving, I asked them how long they had been using the rideshare service for.

To my surprise, they said they had used it close to every night since they got to Chicago. They were form out of town and didn’t have a car, so were happy to find that Lyft was giving away massive new rider promo codes.

They signed up, entered a code of one of their friends, then took a ride. Since that night, they swore that they would use that over public transportation every time they could!

That is the power of these promo codes. Many people think they are one-off ways to get exposure, but they are much more than that. Many millions of riders have downloaded the app, taken their free ride, then become loyal users.

This model is so effective that many companies are opting to leverage their promotions and customer base over actual product marketing. Pretty cool stuff that they’ve tapped into here.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Lyft app

After using this app for a while, there are pros and cons that you start to observe. I use it as a passenger and driver quite often, so I have compiled some of both based on my experiences.

  Advantages of Lyft

  • Convenient rides with the touch of a button – What is better than pressing a button and having somebody come get you? Well, your mom’s apple pie. But not much else.
  • No Surge pricing– You won’t have to worry about draining your bank on outrageous fares. Pricing is straightforward and not highly variable. While you may pay a little more with Prime Time, rides are still affordable. As of this writing, Lyft has removed the 200% cap on Prime Time pricing, putting themselves up there with Uber during the dreaded busy times. Great for drivers, but not so good for riders :(. At any rate, this is still cheaper than Uber though during these high traffic times
  • Cheaper than a taxi – Ridesharing services are often about 20% less than a taxi, meaning you will get both convenience AND savings
  • Great first time Lyft user promo code – if you can’t tell from the entire post above, we love Lyft a lot because they offer killer promotions that help users save tons of money on free rides!

  Disadvantages of Lyft

  • Not as big as Uber – You may have to wait a while for a ride because there are not as many drivers as there are for Uber, especially during times that Uber guarantees an hourly income
  • Not available outside the United States – users can enjoy the service in over 65 cities in the United States, but an expansion outside the United States would be nice when traveling abroad
  • No Happy Hour pricing – discounted rates during “Happy Hour” used to be active when times were slow. They no longer do this, making ride prices pretty much the same all across the board

  Lyft Safety

One question we get a lot is people wondering if Lyft is safe. At first, I was a little skeptical about safety too. There was just something about getting in a total stranger’s car that I really didn’t feel comfortable about. But once I did it for the first time, it was a great experience.

Lyft gives their drivers background checks, running them through tons of different criminal databases to make sure there are no bad eggs. They screen drivers in-person, as well as check their vehicles for reliability, safety, and damage. In addition, they make sure that drivers are experienced and have no history with drugs or alcohol.

All this being said, it is safe to say that Lyft is safe, if not as safe, as a taxi or other method of hired transportation.

  Lyft Promotion Code FAQ

Question 1: Should I tip my Lyft driver?

It is no secret that rideshare drivers love getting tipped. Drivers love tips so much that Lyft even incorporated them directly into the app to encourage it! By no means should you feel required to tips your Lyft driver, but if you enjoyed the service you received, I’m sure they would greatly appreciate a few extra bucks on top of the ride fare.

Question 2: What happens to Lyft credit after you take your first ride?

Lyft account credit will carry over to the next ride if you do not use all of it. Unlike Uber account credit, the company does this so you can maximize the credit without getting discouraged. For example, if you have $50 in free account credit, and take a trip that only costs $20, you will still have $30 left that is good towards the next trip.

Question 3: What is the difference between a Lyft promo code, coupon code, or promotional code?

To be completely honest, there is not difference between these codes. While many different websites refer to these promotions as different things, they are really just different ways of saying it.

Question 4: What happens if my ride exceeds the amount of my free ride credit?

If you take a ride that is more expensive that your free Lyft coupon credit, the card on file will be charged the remaining amount after the credit amount is subtracted from the total.

Question 5: Is Lyft safe?

Historically, yes, Lyft is very safe. Drivers are screened and given background checks before picking up riders, so it is safe to say they have been thoroughly vetted and their vehicles screened for safety.

For more information about safety procedures, visit the official safety page.

Question 6: Do drivers get paid when passengers use a Lyft coupon?

Yes, drivers still get the same amount of money, no matter if the passenger uses a ride credit or pays with a credit card. The Lyft promotions are simply a way of getting new riders to join the platform, so you can rest assured drivers get paid no matter how you pay for your ride.

Question 7: How does the Lyft referral program work?

The Lyft Referral Program is a great way for existing riders to earn free ride credit by inviting their friends to the platform. Tapping into existing riders a a way of guerilla marketing that saves Lyft a lot of money. Rather than paying for billboards and tons of promotional materials, they simply offers free ride credit to their riders for referrals.

How to refer a new rider:

  1. Click the menu within the app on the top left side of the screen
  2. Select the option from the dropdown menue that says “free rides”
  3. Send out your referral code to friends and family right through the app!
  4. Once they take their first free ride, you will see a free ride credit appear in your account

Question 8: I heard Lyft is making changes to their promo code program. Is this true?

Yes, this is true. Currently, the referral code amount for riders ranges between $20 and $50, which is outstanding any way you think about it. Prices have also been slashed, so you can be sure your credit will go farther than ever before.

In addition, drivers are making even more for referring new passengers, getting double in some cities. This ensures that both parties are happy, and the referrals keep coming in.

Watch our updates section above, as we will be updating this article regularly when more information becomes available.

Question 9: Recently Lyft has been in the news before. What current developments should I know before hopping in my ride?

We watch the news quite a bit, so we totally understand what you’re asking. See below for an aggregation of recent news and promo code updates.

Question 10: Should passengers tip their drivers when they use a Lyft credit code?

Personally, I almost always tip my driver when I use a promo code. If you think about it, the driver is going out of their way to get you, use their gas, and put immense amounts of wear and tear on their vehicles, all for a very low rate. That being said, you are also not paying for your ride, and are likely going to get it for free.

If you are getting your ride for free, be nice and tip the driver. There are many people out there that would disagree, but it is a nice thing to do. And it’s not like you have to tip 20% or anything, even a buck or two will make your driver’s day.

We tried to outline everything you should need to get on the road with Lyft, but if you have any other questions about a promo code, free ride credit, or anything related to these current promotions, leave them in the comments and we will answer them as soon as we can. Thanks for reading!
