Lyft promo codes.
You probably know other people that have been able to cash in on the massive amounts of free ride credit the company is currently offering new and existing users.
But how do they get all this credit? Do they have a secret that you don’t know about?
Yep, they do, actually!
And today I’m going to pull back the curtain and show you the different ways you, too, can cash in on these lucrative promotions.
Lyft Promo Code and Promotions
As a rideshare user myself, I can say that the promotions currently being offered are more than worth your time to claim. The best one, however, grants up to $50 in free ride credit to new users. (Note: the credit amount changes by city and time the promotion is applied, and this amount can change at any time)
All you have to do is enter a Lyft credit code from the list below during signup to claim your credit.
The code we promote the most is “CAMPUSCODE2017“, but the codes below will also work, unlocking the same amount of ride credit. If the code above didn’t work for you, try again with one from below:
Using a Lyft gift code to claim free ride credit is a great way for new users to try the platform without having to sink too much of their own money into the ride.
Applying the Lyft promo codes
Claiming the new user promotion is pretty easy, and can be applied in a matter of minutes. Users will need to follow a few steps to claim the promotion:
1. Download the rider app
If you download the app from the official company website, follow the prompts. They may ask you to verify your phone number to download the app.
2. Create an account and login.
Once you get the app on your phone, follow the in-app instructions to enter profile, phone, and payment information that will be used to request rides.
3. Enter a Lyft credit code
After you’ve created your account, navigate to the “Payment” section of the app to enter the new user promo code.
In the box labeled “Add Credit/Gift Code”, enter one of the codes from above. Once you apply the code, you’ll see ride credit amount, expiration date, and any other additional information related to the promotion.
What cities have Lyft coverage areas?
If it takes longer than five minutes to get from one side of your city to the other, Lyft is probably available in your area.
But seriously, they are currently in 65 cities across the continental United States, and growing at a very rapid rate.
Coverage is available in the largest cities in the United States, including New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Diego, Tampa, Dallas, Seattle, and Atlanta. They are also in smaller cities like Lincoln, Raleigh-Durham, and Portland, among many others.
Lyft New York City
New York City is one of Lyft’s hottest markets because of the sheer amount of people living in such a small space.
Another one of the most popular Lyft cities is in Boston, MA. There are plenty of colleges in this area, as well as tons of working professionals that need reliable transportation to and from work. New users in Boston can use one of our new user Boston Lyft promo codes to get a free ride credit that is good towards their first ride.
Lyft Los Angeles
Los Angeles is home to a bunch of idealists who like breaking away from the norm. Here you will find Lyft is a VERY respected service, and a complement to rail, bus, and cab transportation industry.
Chicago is home to the Cubs, White Sox, and a whole lot of people (1.19 million to be exact). It is one of the nation’s most densely populated cities, meaning millions of people require reliable, affordable transportation every day.
Lyft San Diego
San Diego is yet another of the most popular Lyft cities for customers. The San Diego community has turned to Lyft to bypass the bus or taxis, and looks to it to provide safe, reliable, and affordable rides on demand whenever they need them. Locals and tourists alike use it to get around, and with it being so affordable and convenient, it is not hard to see why it has become so popular!
Where can I use Lyft?
Lyft can be used any time you need a ride to and from an event, place, or gathering. Never again do you have to worry about hailing a cab, or hoping that next bus arrives on time. With Lyft, you have friendly rides available on demand at all times. Simply pull out your smartphone, open the Lyft app, and get wherever you need to go.
Lyft riders often use the app for:
- Getting around town
- Safe rides home after a drink or two, or three
- After a car breakdown
- To and from events where parking is sparce
- Birthday parties
- Family gatherings
- Getting to and from work
- Business meetings/travel arrangements
If you are a first time user, you can redeem your Lyft credit code for any of these occasions, giving you a free ride no matter where you are looking to go!
Why does Lyft offer a referral program?
Lyft offers such a great referral program for two reasons: 1. To grow their rider base and make more money, obviously. 2. To keep drivers and riders happy, creating a cohesive equilibrium that we call the rideshare industry.
This referral program is part of Lyft’s current 2018 promotions, and gives riders tons of free ride credit, and allows drivers to make some extra money on the side of driving. Without the program, Lyft, Uber, and other rideshare companies would not have been able to grow so aggressively.
If you think about the program at it’s core, it is genius. There is a platform of over 60,000 drivers, and millions of riders. You give them each a few bucks for referring new passengers, and word spreads like wildfire. Now that’s powerful.
If you want to share your referral code and get free ride credit, simple navigate to the “Free Rides” section within the Lyft app, share the code with a friend who hasn’t yet taken Lyft, and you’ll get a free ride credit when they take their first ride.
Your friend will also get a free ride for downloading the app and using it for the first time. Our friends over at Ridester cover this a ton more in their existing Lyft user post, so check that out to learn more about the program.
Lyft codes for new users
As we touched on above part of the reason Lyft has been able to expand so fast is largely due to many riders claiming a promo code for new users. These rides allow them to get one, two, three, even four rides under their belts for free, without having to pay a dime.
When you give a new rider a free ride credit, they will likely use the app a few times, realize how dang convenient it is, then think Lyft first the next time they have to get a ride somewhere!
Let’s take a quick look at my personal experience as a driver and a couple that I drove the other day:
It was about 6 o clock and I picked up a happy couple that seemed new to Lyft. After I picked them up, got directions to their destination, and began driving, I asked them how long they had been using the rideshare service for.
To my surprise, they said they had used it close to every night since they got to Chicago. They were form out of town and didn’t have a car, so were happy to find that Lyft was giving away massive new rider promo codes.
They signed up, entered a code of one of their friends, then took a ride. Since that night, they swore that they would use that over public transportation every time they could!
That is the power of these promo codes. Many people think they are one-off ways to get exposure, but they are much more than that. Many millions of riders have downloaded the app, taken their free ride, then become loyal users.
This model is so effective that many companies are opting to leverage their promotions and customer base over actual product marketing. Pretty cool stuff that they’ve tapped into here.
Advantages and Disadvantages of the Lyft app
After using this app for a while, there are pros and cons that you start to observe. I use it as a passenger and driver quite often, so I have compiled some of both based on my experiences.
Advantages of Lyft
- Convenient rides with the touch of a button – What is better than pressing a button and having somebody come get you? Well, your mom’s apple pie. But not much else.
- No Surge pricing– You won’t have to worry about draining your bank on outrageous fares. Pricing is straightforward and not highly variable. While you may pay a little more with Prime Time, rides are still affordable. As of this writing, Lyft has removed the 200% cap on Prime Time pricing, putting themselves up there with Uber during the dreaded busy times. Great for drivers, but not so good for riders :(. At any rate, this is still cheaper than Uber though during these high traffic times
- Cheaper than a taxi – Ridesharing services are often about 20% less than a taxi, meaning you will get both convenience AND savings
- Great first time Lyft user promo code – if you can’t tell from the entire post above, we love Lyft a lot because they offer killer promotions that help users save tons of money on free rides!
Disadvantages of Lyft
- Not as big as Uber – You may have to wait a while for a ride because there are not as many drivers as there are for Uber, especially during times that Uber guarantees an hourly income
- Not available outside the United States – users can enjoy the service in over 65 cities in the United States, but an expansion outside the United States would be nice when traveling abroad
- No Happy Hour pricing – discounted rates during “Happy Hour” used to be active when times were slow. They no longer do this, making ride prices pretty much the same all across the board
One question we get a lot is people wondering if Lyft is safe. At first, I was a little skeptical about safety too. There was just something about getting in a total stranger’s car that I really didn’t feel comfortable about. But once I did it for the first time, it was a great experience.
Lyft gives their drivers background checks, running them through tons of different criminal databases to make sure there are no bad eggs. They screen drivers in-person, as well as check their vehicles for reliability, safety, and damage. In addition, they make sure that drivers are experienced and have no history with drugs or alcohol.
All this being said, it is safe to say that Lyft is safe, if not as safe, as a taxi or other method of hired transportation.
