After your application you will be given the opportunity to have a session with an Uber Xpert. Don’t panic, this is very straightforward.
Xperts are Uber drivers with a lot of experience, who pass a qualification that allows them to get paid to mentor new drivers. This process is painless and simply allows Uber to check that you are who you say you are and that your vehicle meets their standards.
Your Xpert session will take about 30 minutes. You book an Xpert in much the same way that an Uber passenger books a driver. You’ll see them on your app and they will come to your location. Make sure that you have everything ready for inspection first; your car and your documents.
You would be wise to dress appropriately for your session, because it will make a good impression and get you into the habit for when you drive customers. You should be smart, clean and fresh.
The first part of the session is the car evaluation. The Xpert will usually ask you to get into the driver’s seat while they examine the outside of the car. They simply need to confirm that your vehicle complies with legal requirements. Typically, they will check:
- Brake lights
- Turn indicators
- Side Mirrors
- Windshield & Wipers
The next part is about you and the inside of the car. Your Xpert will ask you to take them for a 10 minute test drive. Don’t worry about this, just follow their instructions and take a short ride. During this time, they will check that your driving is safe and also check the interior of the car. They will look at the quality of things like:
- Safety Belts
- Rearview Mirror
- Emergency Brake
- Wheel & Horn
Before or after your test drive, your Uber Xpert will ask for your documents. Have ready everything that you used during application, so they can confirm that nothing is copied or falsified. Primarily they need to see your driver’s license, insurance and registration. The Xpert will also help you set up your partner app and take a profile photo for you, if you haven’t already.
How to pass your Uber Xpert session
Meeting your Uber Xpert doesn’t have to be stressful! They are simply a fellow driver who needs to make sure that your application is correct. They are not interviewing you, just checking that everything is in order.
Have all your documents ready to ensure that things go smoothly. You should also be sure that your car is roadworthy and clean! Think of this like driving your first passenger; you want to make a good impression. Follow the instructions the Xpert gives you and be helpful and polite at all times.
Finally, the Xpert will usually have some advice for you. Listen to their experience and you’ll learn a lot about being an Uber driver. Take this opportunity to ask any questions you have. The Xpert can go over anything you don’t fully understand, from payments to using the app. They might also have some tips on getting good ratings. Keep their contact information in case you need advice in the future.
