How to Earn Extra Cash With the Uber Invite Code
If you’ve ever taken an Uber ride, you know how convenient the service is. Instead of having to hail a taxi or worry about parking and driving your own car, you can get a private ride to your location within minutes. It’s a service that has truly revolutionized personal transportation.
Of course, Uber wouldn’t be possible without its large network of drivers. These contractors use their own cars to transport passengers around, earning a nice income in the process. If you’re looking for a way to make extra cash (or even to replace your full-time job), driving for Uber can be a great way to do it.
If you’re considering signing up to drive for Uber, you should know that you can earn extra money when you sign up using an Uber invite code. In this guide, we’re going to show you everything you need to know about the code, including why you should use it and how to apply it.

The Uber invite code is a way for Uber to get more drivers to use their platform. Uber only works if there are enough drivers available to give rides. If the supply runs too low, then passengers can either be left waiting for long amounts of time or having to pay higher surge prices for rides. This leads to unsatisfied passengers, which Uber does not want.
To solve this problem, Uber has created special Uber invite codes (also known as referral links or promo codes). Each existing Uber driver has one of these codes, and they can send it to anyone who might want to drive for Uber.
When a driver signs up to drive for Uber with the referral code, they get a guaranteed amount of earnings for the first number of rides they give for Uber within a given period of time. If that sentence sounded a bit vague, that’s because the numbers all vary based on your city (we’ll get into that more in a moment).
Using the Uber invite code also benefits the driver who refers people to drive for Uber. For each successful referral, the driver gets a cash payout (the amount of which also depends on their city). When the system works properly, everyone benefits: Uber, existing Uber drivers, and new Uber drivers.
Note: The current bonus system is different from the early days of Uber. Back then, new drivers could earn a flat cash bonus in exchange for giving a certain number of rides. This bonus was in addition to whatever they earned from driving, making the system super lucrative.
Unfortunately for new drivers, Uber discontinued this system after Uber became more popular (and tons of drivers were signing up just to get the bonus). Nowadays, Uber guarantees a certain amount of earnings to new drivers who sign up with a code, but they don’t pay anything extra beyond that amount.
We’ve already hinted at this, but it’s worth emphasizing why it’s so important to use the Uber invite code and claim your Uber sign up bonus. If you’re going to sign up for Uber anyway, you might as well do it through our special referral link. It will guarantee you a set amount of earnings for your city, so long as you give the correct number of rides during the amount of time Uber specifies.
Most of the time, the number of rides is pretty easy to hit, so you might as well use the program. If you end up earning more than the referral amount (which is very possible if you drive strategically), then there’s no penalty. Using the invite code just guarantees that you’ll make a certain amount. If you earn less than the guaranteed amount after giving the required number of rides, Uber will make up the difference.
To make this easier to understand, let’s use some real numbers. For drivers in Omaha, Nebraska, the Uber sign up bonus is currently $175. Uber guarantees you’ll earn this much if you give 25 rides within your first 90 days of signing up to drive. Giving 25 rides in 90 days is not hard. Even if you’re just driving for Uber on Saturdays, you’d only have to give approximately 2 rides per day to meet this minimum (and you’d likely give a lot more than that).
The amount Uber will guarantee you depends entirely on your city. In cities where there is a lot of demand for Uber drivers, the amount can go quite high (we’ve seen it as high as the $1,000s). The number of trips you’re required to take and the amount of time you have to take them will also vary with your city.
While you had 90 days to give the minimum number of rides in the example we gave above, in your city the number could be as low as 60 or 30 days (though we’ve never seen it go below 30). And instead of requiring a minimum of 25 trips, the amount could be much higher (50 trips would not be uncommon in larger cities).
Finally, we should note that the amounts Uber guarantees do not include the fees you pay to Uber. Uber takes a commission that can be as high as 30 percent in some markets, so the amount they guarantee you earn is before the fees they charge. Plus, you have to consider that Uber doesn’t take any taxes out of your earnings, so be sure to account for that as well.
We hope we’ve convinced you of the value of using an Uber invite code, so now let’s look at how to apply one. It’s a very simple process. All you have to do is click a valid referral link (using ours helps support the site).
Once you click the link, you’ll get redirected to Uber.com and see a landing page like the one below:
All you have to do from there is fill in the rest of the information and continue with your application. To learn how to apply to be an Uber driver, check out our guide.
Of course, there is another way to apply the code. It’s not the way we recommend (as errors can occur), but it is possible to enter the referral code manually when you’re signing up. When you go to the Uber application page through the main Uber site, you’ll see a box at the bottom of the sign up form that says “(Optional) Invite Code.” Just type the code “PRGEY” into that box to apply. You can see an illustration of how to do this in the image below:
And that’s all there is to it. It’s such a simple process, there’s no reason not to sign up and apply the code.
To conclude this guide, here are answers to some common questions about Uber invite codes.
1. Where are Uber driver invite codes available?
Uber driver invite codes are available in a variety of cities. Here are just a few U.S. cities where drivers can claim sign up bonuses:
- Los Angeles
- New York City
- San Francisco
To find out if there’s a referral bonus available for your city, just click this link. If your city is eligible, you’ll see a message at the top of it that says, “EARN AT LEAST $X, GUARANTEED” (with “X” being the dollar amount guaranteed for your city).
2. Does the Uber driver invite code apply to specific types of Uber rides?
The Uber referral code is valid for all types of Uber rides. The guaranteed amount generally targets those driving for UberX, as this platform tends to have lower earnings than other specialized Uber services such UberSELECT, UberBLACK, and UberSUV. The guarantee will still apply, however, no matter what type of ride you give.
3. Can existing drivers use the Uber invite code?
No, they cannot. Uber does not allow retroactive referrals. The Uber driver sign up bonus is available only to new Uber drivers. This is why it’s so important to sign up with a referral link (or input a referral code like “PRGEY“) when applying.
Otherwise, you’ll miss out on the new driver bonus. Having said that, there are promotions and opportunities to earn extra for existing Uber drivers. You can learn more about them in this guide.
4. What’s the difference between the Uber invite code and the Uber promo code?
There is no difference. You’ll hear people use both terms, and they refer to the same opportunity to earn an Uber driver bonus when signing up.
5. When will I receive my Uber sign up bonus?
You should receive the bonus amount once you’ve met the ride quota and the required amount of time has passed. Note that Uber starts counting the days from the moment of signing up, not from when you start driving.
Once you get your bonus, you’ll be able to see it on your pay statement in the Uber driver app.
6. Are Uber invite codes available for passengers?
Yes, there are. If you don’t yet use Uber, you can get a discount on your first ride (or even first couple of rides), when you sign up and download the Uber app through this referral link or when you use the code “WINTER35“. Who said there’s no such thing as a free ride? You can learn more about this program in our guide to Uber promotions.
7. Does Lyft offer invite codes?
Yes, Lyft offers a similar program. You can learn more about it in our guide to Lyft promos.
